FAQ
Do I qualify?
- Are you at least 55 years old and/or have a developmental or physical disability?
- Would maintenance work, if any, be performed only at your owner occupied primary residence and property?
- Do you live in the Capital District?
- Do you have a homeowners or renters insurance?
If you can say yes to all of these questions you most likely qualify for membership in Umbrella..
Are the people who work at the house insured?
- Yes they are, but only for work that is called into the office by the homeowner. If the homeowner calls the handyperson directly and does not inform the office, insurance coverage and guarantees are void.
Are the workers screened?
- Yes. We conduct a criminal, professional and personal background check on every worker.
What if I don’t like it?
- We may not always get it right, but no one will try harder to help you remain safe and comfortable in your home. Umbrella does not work for everyone.
How do I get help?
- Once you join Umbrella help is just a phone call away.
- For routine jobs, just call the Umbrella office and discuss the work you need done with a service coordinator. Within a few days of your call you’ll be contacted by a worker to set up a convenient appointment time and date to do the job.
- In an emergency, you’ll have a special phone number you can call 24 hours-a-day seven days a week and get help with plumbing and electrical problems, loss of heat, storm damage and more. Even better, you’ll be talking to a person, not an answering machine.
How quickly can I get help?
- Emergencies call are responded to within 90 minutes.
- Routine jobs are started within a week.
